broadbent
artist statement
Currently, I am creating a body of work in response to community groups in contemporary society, exploring aspects such as social history, mental health, the human condition and the psychological state of being.
Striping my work back to primarily drawings has enabled me to create elements of beauty, contradicting and contrasting with imagery which portrays serious subject matter. Audio extracts of the sitters complement the imagery and enhance the viewing experience. Ultimately, my work aims to create a narrative which conveys important contemporary issues. Through these artworks I aim to open discourse and debate tackling these social topics.
